My main role in my career has been structural engineering and design. Working on a vast range of building and structure types.
I always say to people that my job is to design the skeleton of a building and make sure it does not fall over!
From the footings to the roof and any unique architectural features that equate to the main structure.
Working with many other disciplines to ensure a seamless design and reduce the potential RFI's from site contractors.
About 4 years ago I started working with 3D modelling projects in Autodesk Revit. I found that I enjoyed this quite a bit alongside the engineering. I was lucky enough to be able to do both in my employment.
About to begin my first contract as self-employed and be able to continue my journey overseas for a little while longer.
I have been using Autodesk Revit for 3D modelling for approximately 4 years while working as an engineer.
Revit is a vast program and I am enjoying learning all the nuances and discovering the most efficient solutions to achieve the desired outcome.
I have also dabbled in the world of Dynamo for the purpose of automation in Revit and aligning with structural analysis models.
With Revit sections can be cut from the 3D model and then 2D linework is added to complete the detail. Including plates, bolts, welds, tags, notes, reinforcement, hatches, etc.
I really enjoy getting into the detailing and ensuring what is placed on the sheet is easily and clearly understood, and therefore, can be constructed in the real world - the 3D world.
My engineering projects in the past have included (but not limited to) education buildings, residential structures, fuel stations and associated fuel canopies, healthcare/hospital buildings, warehouses, ALDI grocery stores, and fast food outlets. These have been new builds, refurbishments and heritage works.
My experience has been working with steel, concrete, timber and masonry. Including anchors and fixings, cladding materials, weld types, sandwich roof panels, ceiling grid framing, joint sealants and proprietary products, repair products for concrete and reinforcement, and much more.
